Spain celebrates many fiestas throughout the year. Most of these are smaller-scale district or village festivals, but a few festivals are really well-known around the world. Here are the most popular ones.

This festival in Pamplona receives a large number of foreign visitors every year to watch the famous Running of the bulls, eat good food and enjoy various events. The bull run starts at 8:00 a.m. every morning during the festival, are you ready for it?

El Carnaval, Tenerife Island

Tenerife’s carnival is considered the second best in the world after Rio de Janeiro. In the streets you can find impressive costumes and musical bands dancing to the rhythm of drums and latin music. Similar smaller carnivals are held elsewhere in Spain at the same time, e.g. Cadiz, Sitges, Torrevieja.

Las Fallas, Valencia

The word Las Fallas means “fire” in the Valencian language, and the goal of this festival is to create and destroy ninots, which are large figures made of cardboard, wood and papier-mâché. Around 200 associations build these wonderful figures throughout the year and at the climax of the celebration these figures are burned. The party is on the street, and the city doesn’t sleep for five days during the main event.

La Tomatina, Buñuel, Valencia

The idea of the celebration is basically to toss others with tomatoes. This peculiar festival dates back to 1945, when a quarrel between two young people from the city ended in a real tomato battle in the main square of the city, in which the neighbors decided to take part.
